A Word from Annette

10 October 2010

Well, I made it! I am absolutely delighted with the result. I am looking forward to working with the councillors in ways that are positive and constructive and take us forward. I also look forward to building on the relationships that I have in central and local government and in the community. We need to build good relationships and acknowledge the importance of these relationships.

During the campaign I often heard that people are looking for a greater sense of respect, inclusion and positive messages.  You have my word that I will continue to work hard in any way I can for these things, and I know there are many people out there who will support this and want to work with me.

Many of you have helped, supported, delivered, donated, organised, advised, cooked, cajoled, counselled, energised, or otherwise given so generously of your time and expertise, through the campaign, I am very grateful for your support and confidence in me.  I have been overwhelmed and humbled by the many warm messages of support. To all of you who voted for me, thanks.

Sincerely,

Annette Main

Wanganui Mayor Elect, Annette Main

``I'm so pleased for everyone who has been willing to get involved.'' Ms Main said she believed her win signalled a new era in Wanganui. ``People wanted a different style, a more inclusive style. That's the message that came through to us. ``The challenge now is to deliver and really make Wanganui people feel included.'' Ms Main paid tribute to the woman she defeated to win the mayoralty. ``I acknowledge the result is close, and I think that reflects the great job Dot has done as the deputy mayor.'' ``I knew it wouldn't be easy.''
